PACKET RADIO

What is Packet Radio? As taken from the web, a method of transmitting and receiving voice, video, and data which is expressed in digital form, i.e. a series of ones and zeros, in a series of blocks or "data packets" using radio frequency communications equipment.

The information broken into short bursts, ("packets"), also contain addressing and error detection information which allows the system to automatically correct the data that may be modified in radio transmission from radio frequency interference.

As amateurs, utilizing computers and radios we construct wireless networks which switch between network nodes, which allows multiple virtual circuits to coexist on a single radio channel. Packet radio networks use the AX.25 data link layer protocol, derived from the X.25 protocol suite and designed for amateur radio use.

With an operational packet radio system in place, we now have the ability to communicate various messages between team locations, accurately, as entered in a pre-determined message form, in an organized and timely manner.
